Double Dip Discount on Alaska Ferries:  Nov 2012 - March 2013

Between 01 Nov 2012 through & inclusive of 31 Mar 2013, full fare adults, children & vehicles doing “mirror image” round trips will enjoy a 30% discount.
(A "mirror image" round-trip is when a traveler departs from port A and travels to port B, then returns from port B to port A).
Note that cabins, food and other items are not discounted.

This special means that when travelling with a vehicle between 01 Nov 2012 and 31 Mar 2013, not only is there a 30% discount as described above but the driver also travels free  (Oct thru April)

New AMHS Ferry PolicyTuesday, May 29, 2012

The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) announced a Port Efficiency Policy to go into effect Friday, June 1, 2012.

As of Friday, June 1, 2012 - Ports of call having no scheduled traffic in or out on any particular day, will be cancelled.
Scheduled traffic is defined as a reservation in place 24 hours in advance of the scheduled departure time from the port in question.

In 2011 the Alaska ferries made 10 port calls where there was no traffic boarding or disembarking the ship.  The new policy is designed to manage efficiencies
